I’ve been told that the “Armenian Metallica,” Vostan Hayots, are back together for at least a few gigs and will perform at Yerevan’s Rocking Club, formerly Downtown / Subway, on Friday 20 October. They apparently played at Stop Club last Friday, but I unfortunately found out too late to go. Anyway, this is really great […]

The author of the book found […]

Eurasianet has yet another insightful analysis on the situation in Armenia by RFE/RL’s Emil Danielyan. This time the focus is on the energy sector and Armenia’s dependence on Russia. However, there’s a twist. The article doesn’t deal with the import of power from abroad, but rather the way in which Yerevan appears happy in handing […]

Via Google’s News Alerts an excerpt from a news item just arrived in my mailbox. Seeing the mention of the surname, Sanjian, I knew the main focus of the article had to be an old friend from London, and it was. Ara Sanjian, a Lebanese-Armenian, has been appointed Director of the Armenian Research Center at […]

Well, even if the French bill criminalizing denial of the Armenian Genocide doesn’t make it into law its certainly stirred up activity in the Blogosphere although it has to be said that posts by foreigners are proving better written and more interesting than ethnic […]

Armenian singer Varduhi Vardanyan has died. While she wasn’t my personal taste musically, Vardanyan won many awards outside of Armenia and I made a point of mentioning her in an article I wrote years ago about the development of a contemporary music scene here.
Nessuna tells me a Russian news forum says it was a […]

Yesterday Nessuna drew my attention towards the existence of photoblog.am, an Armenian-based blog bringing photographers together to discuss photographic news, equipment, and almost anything else photo-related for that matter. Acceptable languages are English, Russian and Armenian. Some interesting news there if you have $35,000 to burn, need 160 megapixels, and have a van to move […]
